The original Matthew’s Dream project was created in 2007. Back then I used a program called “Magix Music Maker 12 Deluxe” and the entire album was created using audio loops provided.
As the provided loops are copyrighted and not royalty free, I am unable to upload the original Magix version. The Magix version contained a total of 4 tracks: The Journey, Matthew’s Dream, Matthew’s Dream part 2 and Matthew's Palace.
In 2012 while I was studying Music Technology at college, I had an idea of creating a sequel to the original Matthew’s Dream album.
The sequel called “Matthew’s Dream 2” was originally going to be composed using Magix Music Maker 12.
I started to create some tracks for this new album but decided to scrap the project. I had the same problem as before with copyright and the lack of software instruments made it difficult for me to make it sound like I wanted to.
I also found that the tracks that I made sounded too close to the original album due to the loops used. Magix Music Maker 12 also had problems working under Windows 7.
In April 2013, I got Logic Pro 9 which came with a lot more software instruments and royalty free Apple Loops (short recordings of instruments which can be used in music created with Logic Pro 9). After playing around with it and practising some skills that I had learned in Music Tech, I decided to remake the Matthew’s Dream 2 project.
The track called ‘The Palace” was created similarly to the original Magix version of Matthew’s Dream using Apple Loops as well as some software instruments.
The software instruments gave me more flexibility as I could make the track sound how I wanted it to such as adding the choir at the end of the song, adding additional drums and the strings section featured during the quiet section of this song.
In mid 2013, another student at my college created an online radio station for his course work. He needed some music made by students at the college as he couldn’t use commercially available music due to copyright reasons.
After being told about this, I decided to submit this track and Ghostly Dreams to him to be played on his radio station. I do not know if the tracks ever aired or not.
In 2014 I decided to upload these tracks to YouTube.
As I can’t upload the original Magix version of Matthew’s Dream, I decided to remove the 2 from the album title and leave it as Matthew’s Dream.
The Matthew's Dream album was originally going to be called "Matthew's Journey".
Note the track called "The Palace" is no longer available on my YouTube channel due to issues regarding an Apple loop called "Exotic Sarod" which was prominently used throughout the track. YouTube's Content ID system kept matching it with songs made by other artists that happened to use the exact same loop, and as such, thought that my video contained their copyrighted content.
While most record labels removed their claims after I filed a dispute, one record label blocked the video worldwide and rejected my dispute. As this kept on happening, and the video was not getting that many views, I decided to remove it and focus on my newer songs which do not use Apple loops.
Thank you for reading :)
